How we test

We want you to know exactly how a recommendation was made. This is our process.

1. We use the tool ourselves

We sign up, run real tasks, and keep our own screenshots and outputs. When a tool needs a paid plan to be tested properly, we pay for it ourselves unless it is stated otherwise in the article.

2. We use the same task across a category

Tools in the same category are tested on the same input, for example the same script for voice tools, or the same source video for captioning and clipping tools. This makes the comparison fair.

3. We record the practical details

For each test we note:

  • the date we tested and the plan we used
  • how long the task took
  • what it cost
  • limits we hit, such as watermarks, export caps, or usage limits

4. We score on the same criteria

Each tool gets a score out of 10, based on:

  • Output quality: how good the result is for the task
  • Ease of use: how quickly a new user gets a result
  • Value: what you get for the price
  • Limits and reliability: free plan limits, failures, export restrictions
  • Support and policies: commercial use rights, refund terms, support responsiveness

[Optional: add the weighting if you use one, for example “Output quality counts for 40% of the score”. Only include it if you actually apply it.]

5. We re-test and update

Prices and features change often. We aim to re-check each article every [90] days and show both the “tested” date and the “updated” date on every page. If a tool changes a lot, we update the article or note that the information may be outdated.

6. Affiliate links do not change ratings

Some tools we review have affiliate programs, and some don’t. We rate tools the same way either way. We do not accept payment in exchange for a review or a higher score. [Only keep this sentence if it is true for you.] If a tool is not a good fit, we say so, and we include a section called “When you should not switch” in our alternatives articles.
